Body composition is regularly measured but not always fully explained in elite football. Learn here the relevance of body fat percentages, and what yours should be.⁣

Why is it important?

Body composition refers to a footballer's fat mass (or body fat %) and muscle mass.

Elite players regularly have their body composition measured, as part of health and performance monitoring.

Optimising body composition can help players improve their power-to-weight ratio and acceleration capacity.

What body fat percentage is best for football?

The typical range of elite players' body fat is 8-13%.

It is important to plan optimal body fat and weight with care to minimise risk of illness or injury.
