To understand the importance of our immune system and how nutrition and training can influence it, we must first understand how it works. Here we provide an overview of how your immune system operates.⁣

Innate immunity

There are two key lines of defence; the first is the innate immune system.

This deals with any general threat (pathogens not belonging to your body).

This system includes physical barriers like skin and hair, bodily fluids like mucus and saliva, and white blood cells that engulf invaders to keep your body safe.

Acquired Immunity

If the innate immune system is breached, the acquired system comes into play.

This system is slower to respond and more complex.

It contains cells that not only attack invaders but build a memory of them for future defence, allowing us to wipe out these threats more quickly in the future.

What's the difference?
